WAHEEDA SATTAR YOUR CANDIDATE FOR GRANGETOWN
MY STORY, OUR COMMUNITY
Hello, Grangetown. I’m Waheeda Sattar, and I’m standing for Labour in the upcoming by-election. Since 2000, my late husband Abdul and I have run our community shop on Cornwall Street, where people come for help and chat about life in Grangetown. Together, we’ve been right at the heart of our community, serving you every day.
Living, working and raising our four daughters here has shaped my understanding of local needs and aspirations.
Alongside Abdul, who served as your Labour councillor from 2017, I’ve seen first-hand how much we can achieve when we support each other. I’ve also learned a lot about what it takes to make a difference.
I’m proud to live and serve the people of Grangetown. I’m standing for the council because I believe we can all make Grangetown even better by working together.
A VISION FOR OUR FUTURE
I want to keep building on the strong community we have. Here are the commitments I pledge to fight for as your councillor:
Cleaner Streets: I’ll push for better rubbish collection and recycling to keep our streets clean and the environment healthy for everyone.
Support for young people: I believe in creating more opportunities for our young people, helping to reduce antisocial behaviour and building a stronger future for Grangetown.
Education: I’ll push for more resources and support for our schools to ensure every child gets the best start in life.
Housing: I’ll campaign for better housing standards and more affordable housing so our children can afford to stay in Grangetown as they grow up.
Communication: I want to make sure the council talks clearly to everyone. I aim to ensure everyone in our community is informed, engaged, and heard.
WHY I’M RUNNING FOR THE COUNCIL
I’m putting myself forward for the council because I know how strong our Grangetown community is. My journey has given me the knowledge, empathy and determination to make a real difference in Grangetown. I also have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by different parts of our community.
I’m here for you: Our shop is a community hub, and I’m always ready to listen and help.
I’m open and honest: I believe in being straight and ensuring everyone’s voice is heard.
I know Grangetown well: After years of living and working here, I understand what we need and the problems we must solve. I’m ready to tackle these problems.
I’m caring and committed: I love our community and am passionate about improving the lives of everybody here.
I stand up for what’s right: Abdul always fought for what’s right, and I’m ready to do the same.
I want to honour Abdul’s legacy by continuing our work together and supporting the community that has given us so much. With your support, I want to make Grangetown a stronger, fairer, greener place where we can all thrive.
LET’S MAKE GRANGETOWN EVEN BETTER TOGETHER
I’m excited about what we can achieve for Grangetown, but I need your help to make it happen.
Here’s what you can do:
Vote for me: Every single vote counts. Remember that your choice can make a difference when it’s time to vote. Let’s work together for a better Grangetown.
Tell me what you think: I want to hear from you. Your ideas, what you’re worried about, and what you think could be better matter to me. Let’s talk about how we can improve Grangetown.
I’m here to listen and to work for you and our community. With your support, we can continue making Grangetown a great place to live.
Your vote matters. Let’s do this together.
Yours in service,
Waheeda Sattar
